Yerba Buena Gardens Waterfall San Francisco
Yerba Buena Gardens is a cool little park just blocks away from Union Square south of Market Street, and above Moscone Convention Center. It covers two square city blocks and is bounded by Mission, Folsom, Third and Fourth Streets. It’s surrounded by 5 star hotels (St. Regis Hotel, W Hotel San Francisco, Marriott, the Westin Market Street, a charming little church, the new Contemporary Jewish Museum, the SF Moma and the Sony Metreon entertainment center (which is charted to be topped off with a Tavern on the Green … yep, the same ilk as the one in New York City’s Central Park. NYC).
Yerba Buena Gardens was built over what is now the Moscone Convention Center, which is the main hang-out for all the trades show people coming to the city; so it’s always a very popular area.
This entry is more about the man-made waterfall, but it’s surrounded by a lot of fun and quirky things to do. Explore. Walk behind the waterfall and then up to the top to explore the Samovar Tea Lounge or a little cafĂ© and bar simply called “B”. Relax and take in the view and watch the seagulls splash in the water above the waterfall. This is the perfect spot to take a nice break.
I added a night shot of the top; so you can see the SF Moma in the background in this safe and well-lit gem of a spot. You might even walk across the foot bridge over Howard Street to explore the other side. You’ll find the Zeum, a children’s museum, a real merry-go-round, a bowling alley, an ice rink, and a playground that’s covered with spongy rubber; so little kids can’t get hurt or dirty. If you’re in the mood for a burger, Mo’s is there and has some really great burgers and garlic fries.
