If you’re downtown in the Union Square area, take a break and drop by the Apple Store near the corner of Market and 4th. Why? There’s always something new being offered for sale there. And, there’s always plenty of equipment you can fiddle with. The store itself is a pleasure to visit:  the nearly windowless exterior, the glass stairs and the teaching theater, where every hour, a presenter runs though the highlights of one of the current software offerings, most of which come free on every Macintosh computer. Spend 10 minutes or an hour and you’ll fall in love with the beauty of at least one product made by Apple. San Francisco Apple Store Details

Saphora is a French chain of cosmetics and cologne stores, but when they moved, Apple seized the opportunity to open a great new store in the middle of the city.

The San Francisco Apple Store may not seem like a place to go, while on vacation, but it’s filled with all types of products you can play with. You can try editing a movie, re-touch a photo, record a tune, surf the Web, or check your email. There’s no pressure to hurry you off a machine or to buy anything. Be sure to go upstairs and relax in the theater, where there are ongoing, free presentations for all the latest Mac software. I sat through a demo for Garage Band and 20 minutes later, put together a song. It’s all fun.

Even if you’re not a “Mac Person”, you’ll find something of interest. Maybe you need a new iPod? Maybe you’d like to find out what all the buzz is about with the new line of Intel Macs? The people working there are all interested in helping you enjoy your visit to the store; so don’t be afraid to ask a dumb question or 3.

Don’t ya just love the glass stairs?
