Quirky San Francisco

Come on, do something different this time!

Neighborhood French (my neighborhood, that is) – LuLu’s

Restaurant LuLu is across the street from where I live, here is SF (kind of … we’re at the Yerba Buena Lofts). Translation: we get to eat there a lot. The wood burning oven and rotisserie waft the inticing smells out to the street in all directions, of something good, every night of the week. The fare is Country French with a collection of very tasty meats and fowl, including suculent rotisserie-cooked duck on a bed of greens – a Saturday special. Since the portions are generally large, some items are quite splitable, which makes it one of our favorite take-out restaurants too. We really have a difficult time tearing ourselves away from the fennel roasted pork, with olive oil mashed potatoes, but sometimes we manage. The rex soul or sand dabs are amazing. Also, try the frito misto – artichoke sliced on a mandolin, deep fried with a couple of very thin slices of lemon; then topped with some shavings of parmasean cheese and served with aoli. Top it off with a nice glass of wine, and you’re all set. Since we’re so close, we usually don’t bother to get a table, but choose to sit at the bar where you’ll be served by Marc or Chris (pictured here). Tell them Randy says HI.
