Naked Men on Market Street???? What the … ???

I know San Francisco is liberal, quirky and open minded to the point of indulgent, but this was just too funny for words. I was walking back to the office from the bank and was enjoying the nice sunny day (it’s been the coldest summer we’ve had in 40 years. I know that’s true because I heard it on the radio, and we all know that the media never lies or exaggerates, right? Regardless, it’s been cold, drippy fog, windy and overcast for weeks. Remember, the best weather here is never the summer … try September, October, November. But I digress.), and while waiting for the light to change, I noticed these two guys on the corner … stark naked, holding a sign to vote for someone I don’t know.

The funny part to me was that nearly everyone just walked by without staring or making a fuss. It’s as if it happens every day.

Being naked isn’t illegal here, but sometimes I think it should be because generally, the ones who get naked are the ones you really don’t want to see naked anyway. Maybe we need a special sub section to that law and make sure only the ones with great bodies can go naked, and I’ll be the judge of that, thank you very much.

I can’t believe the number of people who clicked in to check this out.

If you’re curious about more nakedness here in SF, check out these links:

Bay to Breakers – 99th Annual
If you’re planning to go for the 100th, there are already rumors that there will be no drinking. Bummer. And, no more naked people. Double bummer because this year, there were a lot of great looking naked people. I was pleasantly shocked.

8 minute mini parade video … off the sidelines of Gay Pride
This little parade will give you a rare sampling of every type of person you can imagine … every age, gender, type and orientation. Watch the whole thing. It’s worth it. A friend and I were just waiting to meet other friends, after the parade and a little Champagne. I was sitting on a curb, listening to the music at the stage down the street and just people watching and this is what I caught.

Bay to Breakers – 98th Annual
This was from a different perspective … down at the beginning. Wherever you are, it’s craziness.

Jason Dottley from Sordid Lives get naked on stage …  v e r y  briefly, but still …
He’s such a cuttie!!!! And he even emailed me about this. Crazy.

Special event at the Castro Theater … naked jump roping?
OK, this was just plain silly, but frankly, I love silly and was so glad to see it. Everyone laughed like crazy. I applaud the guy who pulled it off. The real reason we went was to see Carol Linley and John Waters. The whole event was fun.

About Randy

Aw shucks. What can I say? I'm a guy who loves San Francisco, but not the same old crap that people usually flock to see. I'm hoping to turn people on to some of the unique, fun things to do here in our fabulous city. My goal is to help people find things they otherwise would not have found on their own - at least no all in one place.

  5. Hi. Your link to the Gay Pride Parade video isn’t working. It looks like it’s a copy of the link above to the Bay to Breakers race.

    TRiG.

You could’t make this up if you tried.  A guy named Weiner wanting to stop old gay men from flopping around San Fran naked.

I was in SF last year. Gloriously seedy yet high dollar place. I didn’t realize it was legal for geriatric hippies run around naked on the street there, I didn’t see a single naked person when I was there, and I walked all over the downtown from Market to Chinatown, Nob Hill, North Beach, etc., though I did not go to the Castro (a real loss I now know). Got some great shots of a “touch our junk” male strip club marquee sign in one of the more touristed areas, and lots of street preachers amid a sea of homeless people (in the most Democratic and supposedly liberal city in America.   I’m liberal, just not one of those “soak all the rich except me” silk stocking ones).

After I heard about this. I googled some photos of these men.  Yep. mostly old fat ones, hairy man breasts and bellies, the whole stereotypical bit, but shaved balls and pubes.  What is it with these insecure, old gay exhibitionists? Do they think shaving the hair off makes it bigger, or just easier to wave around at passing traffic?

Anywho, I deeply regret I missed this zoo exhibit when in Baghdad by the Bay last year.  Now it’s gone. Prudery wins again, and hands a real loss to street photographers.

    GREAT comment and thanks!

There is a law that I *think* just passed that bans public nudity. You’re right about the ones who decide to show it all … they never seem to be the ones you really *want* to see, but it is our little city at it’s most indulgent. I’ve been on a streetcar filed with tourists who spot naked people (usually those same two guys, BTW) and it causes such a stir. It’s a bit comical, but I’m not sure it’s the best entertainment we can offer the rest of the world. I’m no prude, but even I wince when I see those guys and wonder, “Why do they do this?”

I was curious if you ever thought of changing the structure of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it
better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures.

Maybe you could space it out better?
