The Hyatt Regency San Francisco claims the largest enclosed lobby in the world. I think the statistic still holds, but these things change; so don’t hold me to it 100%. Either way, it’s very impressive and reaches 11+ floors above the main part of the hotel lobby, which is above the street level. It feels very much like a city of the future on a small scale. The little “pod” elevators look like something from an old sci-fi movie. Regardless of it’s age, it’s still a very fun hotel and the location is awesome. Step outside the big revolving front door and you’re right at the Market Street end of the California Cable Car, which will take you up the hill, where you can transfer to another one to go to Fisherman’s Wharf, or downtown. You can also walk down Market to the same spot near Union Square, which is only 6 or 7 blocks, but what fun is that. Or, you could take a streetcar down Market. The Ferry Building is steps away too and filed with food and treats. Saturday morning is the Farmer’s Market, which is more for locals, but fun to mill around.
