Cheap Clothes Shopping, Just for Fun – H & M
It’s difficult to build new buildings in SF because generally, the people who live and love the city don’t want to see it modernized. This was the construction of the new H&M store, which was a classic old downtown building that was gutted and rebuilt from the inside, leaving the outside shell as it was, only restored.
Now it’s a beautiful store on the Cable Car line on Powell.
Some of you may know about H&M, the clothing store from Sweden (think IKEA for clothes); so it may not be a big deal, but when they opened the first West Coast store here in SF, the line on opening day was around the block and then some. Tourists couldn’t belive people would wait in line for 3 hours just to go to a store that would never actually run out of anything.
Well, the store opening was great fun. The merchandise is really cheap and the quality isn’t the best, but it’s a collection of hip clothes that are just plain fun. Check it out and I’m sure you’ll find a little something. I bought a great hat there for $7!!! Who cares if it doesn’t last a lifetime, it’ll be fun for now. Remember, you’re in San Francisco. Have fun! Be someone else for a day.
