disability pride dance 345x480 Everyone Can Dance 2009 July 25th

This sounds quirky alright, but it’s also a good cause … and something that sounds like fun. July is Disability Pride Month, which I didn’t know about until today.

In the true spirit of San Francisco hospitality and acceptance of everyone, everywhere, I decided to post the entire note I got from Lori Guidos, who is also looking for volunteers to help. Give of yourself, and have fun, all at the same time …

    ***** Let’s Dance!!! *****

In honor of Disability Pride Month, DisabledCommunity.Org is co-sponsoring a dance with other disability and aging focused organizations on Saturday, July 25th from 5-9 pm at the UU Center at 1187 Franklin Street, San Francisco.

This pride dance is open to people with and without disabilities and is planned as a social action to increase self love and social movement and to decrease alienation and isolation within our community.

AXIS Dance Company will kick off the dance from 5:30 to 6:30 teaching dance participants new ways of thinking about movement.

At 6:30 everyone can dance to the musical mixings of Leroy Franklin Moore Jr. of Krip Hop Nation who will be mixing a group of diverse dance music, including music created by artists with disabilities and DJ Reggie Daniels will be spinning them.

Order a Ticket to the Dance Online $5-25 based on ability to pay

Go to: http://www.disabledcommunity.org/dance or buy one at the door

**** If you like this idea and would like to jump on the bandwagon, we need sponsors and volunteers to help this be a successful event! Contact Lori Guidos at admin@disabledcommunity.org or leave a message at 415-707-9680.

After the big parade, we all walked down to the Civic Center, where all the food concessions, live entertainment and dancing is set-up. The summer smells of BBQ’d everything was wafting though the air on this fun and sunny day. We had a drink along the way … or two, then make a quick trip through Ferry Village (not to be missed, if you’re up for a bit of live X-Rated stuff … I didn’t post any because most of the naked people are *not* the ones you really want to see naked … as you’ll see in the video here … watch closely, if it’s your thing). Every year, we see the same naked ones and trust me, it’s never pretty, darn it. I wonder how many end up on line and if their mothers or co-workers ever spot them? I just can’t imagine.

I loved doing this video and love watching it. It’s a real slice of the whole day. You’ll see it all in this 8 minute video – all types, shapes, genders, outfits and more. The music was next to where I was sitting, which added a great little ambiance. I love watching people kind of “half dancing” as they walked by.
