I just spent some time with Al, owner of Al’s Attire, a North Beach institution. What a great guy that everyone loves knowing. We had coffee at CafĂ© Trieste, and he seems to know everyone there and on in shops and restaurants along the way.

He’s got a list of famous customers a mile long and he treats it like nothing. “Oh yeah, Carlos Santana was in on Saturday for some shoes and a few other things.” He doesn’t brag, but I heard Tom Waits and Rob Schneider’s names too. There’s more, but that’s not the reason to check out Al’s at 1314 Grant in North Beach. His clothes are amazing and he really knows what he’s doing. He’s a hands on guy and gives customers the attention they deserve. I think the key is, he really loves what he does, and it shows.

If you need something original, he’ll help pull it together. Or, if you need to have a pair of antique shoes re-produced, Al’s the guy. He creates bags, hats, belts, shirts, suits, evening gowns … you name it. You’ll just have to go look. When you do, tell him you saw him on Quirky San Francisco.

skyler smart radio interviewer 360x480 Apple 3Gs Hoopla at the Apple Store NOW!!!

It’s HERE … the newest iPhone, the Apple 3Gs. YEA Apple!!!!

I love Apple. I love everything about all the Apple products, and what’s not to like? The functionality, the design, and guess what, unlike the PC world, it all works!!! It drives me crazy when people say, “I don’t know how to use Macs.” This is a totally stupid comment. I’m forced to work on a PC at the office, but we have multiple Macs at home, and gosh, it’s not that hard to switch back and forth at all. How about the people who say that Macs don’t have enough control over the system? Not only is that a totally false statement, the things they usually “dig around” and “FIX” do nothing to improve their computer, and they usually end up creating more problems because they really don’t know what they’re doing. I worked with one of the 4 inventors of the spreadsheet, Dash Chang, who always preferred Macs over PCs. I asked why, and his answer made total sense,”Think about it. All the Apple products are made by one company, or using strict guidelines from Apple; so naturally, everything will work correctly together. On the PC side, you have hundreds of thousands of manufacturers building things without any standards or guidelines - it’s a free-for-all. How could you possibly expect everything to work well together?” I could go on and on, but I digress …

I bumped into Skyler (above), who interviewed me for Get Smart Radio. They have a free Radio App at www.stitcher.com/dl. They also have a contest going on; so email this code (Smart18763) to Contest@Stitcher.com (for contest rules and limitations: www.landing.stitcher.com/contest). Check it out and good luck.

This little hidden shopping center is often overlooked, but it’s filled with some fun finds and great shopping. If you need a fabulous new suitcase, a fast tasty meal, or a quick chair massage for next to nothing, take a little (and I mean little … as in steps away) side trip off Market Street. It’s very, very close to Montgomery and Market. Discover it and let me know what you think?
