Finally, the perfect place to rent a bike for your trip around the bay and across the Golden Gate Bridge. In my FREE eBook (look for the yellow and blue button in the column on the left), you can grab a copy of Bike the Bay in 1/2 a Day, Your Way, which is a document I put together with instructions of how to navigate your way along the Embarcadero, past Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, through the Presidio, over the Golden Gate Bridge, down the big hill into Sausalito and back to San Francisco by ferry. It’s a great trip. I love doing it and I’m sure you will too. It also includes photos of what you’ll see, and access to FREE photos to supplement the ones you take on your trip.
The problem has been that most of the bike rental spots are too far. But now, Bike and Roll (415/229.2000) just opened a spot at 5 Embardacero Center, across from the Ferry Building. It’s right at the best place to start your trek. They offer a variety of bikes and rates … AND, the people there seemed super friendly.

Hi I’m RandySFO (Randy Schroeder) a long time resident of San Francisco and Monterey and I know the city well. My favorite things to do are usually free or cheap. That way, I can spend more on other, more important things, like a nice hotel or great cocktails at a hip bar somewhere.
If you’re not happy with this 52 page eBook, just let me know and I’ll gladly give you a refund, no questions asked.

The Painted Ladies
There are a lot of Victorian homes here in San Francisco but these six remain some of the most popular ones in the city. The term Painted Ladies became famous because of a book written by Elizabeth Pomada and Michael Larson in 1978 – Painted Ladies – San Francisco’s Resplendent Victorians.
Don’t bother with a tour bus or cab. The #21 Hayes bus goes right there and you can catch it right in front of the Gap store on Market Street, where the Powell Street Cable Car turnaround is. For $2 and about 15 minutes, you’ll be there. If you get a transfer, you can stay for a couple hours … maybe have a picnic lunch on the lawn at Alamo Square, the lovely park across the street.
The best time to go is late afternoon; so the sun is on the the “ladies” faces. :>)
