This little hidden shopping center is often overlooked, but it’s filled with some fun finds and great shopping. If you need a fabulous new suitcase, a fast tasty meal, or a quick chair massage for next to nothing, take a little (and I mean little … as in steps away) side trip off Market Street. It’s very, very close to Montgomery and Market. Discover it and let me know what you think?

Litz Plummer, Operatic Soprano and Robert Close,Operatic Tenor perform regularly at Maiden Lane and Grant Street.

I’ve put Litz on my blog before, but this is a video of both of them singing a little piece of La Boheme. It’s so cool to be walking around that part of town and here their voices echoing through the narrow streets. Be sure and drop a little something in the pot, or better yet, buy their CDs.

Tell them Quirky San Francisco sent you!!!

After the work day ends, on the last Friday of every month, thousands of bicyclists meet near the foot of Market Street, and then decide where to take the pack … through downtown at a nice, leisurely pace - blocking traffic, sometimes for an hour. Generally it only effects a small part of downtown, and only for 10 - 15 minutes.

The first Critical Mass was over 15 years ago, and started with 4 dozen riders. The purpose is to make more people aware of using bicycle transportation, instead of cars. One of the original riders, Joe Pomerantz has never owned a car and still is part of Critical Mass.

Today, Critical Mass rides are found in over 300 cities worldwide, including London, Austin, Los Angeles, San Diego, Berkeley, Chicago, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Berlin, and Rio de Janeiro. The main goal is to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.
