Carl is the wine chief at Local Wine Merchant and Restaurant and is definitely worth a visit. He is the Mr. Smarty Pants of wine … in a good way. He’s been all over the world and knows a lot about wine and makes great recommendations; so put your wine faith in his hands and you’ll have some fun and some great new wines to try. Ask about the wine tasting and you might end up taking home a bottle or two, which is priced cheaper than the menu pricing … also very cool.
Local is a great new little modern Italian restaurant on 1st and Folsom. It seems out of the way, but it’s really not and worth a little walk. The oven pizzas are great (and on Sunday nights, it’s all-you-can-eat pizza for only $12.95). The rest of the menu is great and well priced. They also have brunch.
Local has a wine tasting room, a wind bar, and a full restaurant with a variety of seating – regular tables and chairs, pizza exhibition bar, and tall tables and chairs. It’s a little noisy, but the great music playlists from Mixt Emotions (MixtEmotions.com) balances it out. Speaking of the music, it’s done by Seb Jarakian, one of the owners of Mixt Emotions (www.MixtEmotions.com), who is a master at putting together the most amazing music mixes for any restaurant, hotel, shop or event. The mixes he does for Local are modern Italian with obscure tracks from Italy and other parts of Europe. He’s also arranged unique playlists for different times of the day, and they change monthly; so it never gets boring.
The staff at Local is also great and not to hard on the eyes either. Kai and John illustrate my point.
