This is one of many stairway walks here in San Francisco. Each one is unique and in a variety of neighborhoods and this one starts near Diamond Heights; so if you don’t have a car, it might not work. There are plenty downtown; so do whatever you can. If you’re serious about this, purchase a book titled Stairway Walks of San Francisco, which has maps and detailed directions that allow you to explore neighborhoods that most locals don’t even know exist.

This one is Harry Street and the stairs you see is actually all there is to Harry Street. There is no street, just stairs. AND, there are homes on this street which makes you wonder how they get moved in or out?

FairmountLobby1 735480 And Across the Street, The Fairmont Hotel
Right across the street in the Fairmont Hotel, which was recently remodeled and honestly, I think it’s lost something. The faux marble didn’t need to be added to the huge pillars. Plain paint would have been much nicer. The splendor of this classic old hotel should have stood on it’s own, without adding the fluff. It’s still a pleasure to visit and it’s certainly more sparkly than it used to be. Oh, the flags out front? They represent all the countries that are part of the UN, which started here in San Francisco.

MarkHopkinsLobby 759014 Top of the Mark (Hopkins)
The Top of the Mark used to be a famous meeting place in San Francisco. It meant the top floor of the Mark Hopkins Hotel, which is a beautifully remodeled lounge with a near 360 degree view of the entire city.

The only current photo I have now is the lobby; so it looks like I need to go back and get some better shots.
